Wilmington, NC · every practice, scanned Aug 9 2026

Six businesses in Wilmington own the answer.

Ask ChatGPT or Google for the best chiropractor in Wilmington and you get six names. There are twenty-four practices in this town.

I scanned every single one, and the gap has almost nothing to do with who is better at their job. Here is the whole thing. No email, nothing gated, just scroll.

The list

These six come up by name.

Sea Coast Chiropractic
Cape Fear Chiropractic
Oleander Chiropractic
Elite Chiropractic
Lumina Chiropractic
King Chiropractic

Sharing the top of that page with them: Healthgrades, WebMD, ThreeBestRated and The Joint, which is a franchise. Four national directories that have never treated a single person in this town, absorbing the search anyway.

Everybody else is not in that conversation at all. Not ranked low... not in it.

Before you ask

No, this is not pay to play.

There is no ad slot in ChatGPT. Nobody on that list paid to be on it, me included, and I could not buy anyone a spot if I wanted to.

Where money does tilt the field is upstream. Those answers lean hard on the big directories, and directories absolutely have budgets. So it tilts, for sure, but it tilts upstream and NOT at a checkout page.

What actually decides it is so boring it is almost funny: can the thing read your website and tell what you do and where you are?

The gap

What is actually wrong with the other eighteen.

I am not naming anybody. Every one of these was on a live homepage on August 9, and not one of them is a marketing problem. They are all closed front doors.

Three have no working website at all.

Not outdated, not poorly set up... there is genuinely nothing there.

One still ships the website builder default title.

The browser tab literally reads "HOME | My Site". The practice name is nowhere in it.

One footer credits a doctor who does not work there.

Next to a copyright year eleven years in the future.

One serves a completely blank page to anything that is not a browser.

It looks perfect to you. To a machine, that business does not exist.

One has a live link to an offshore gambling site on its homepage.

Almost certainly a compromised plugin. The owner has been told.

One service page is published reading "The content coming soon!"

Another footer says Copyright 2012. Fourteen years stale, on every page.

Two have a www version of their domain that returns a dead page.

You would never catch it, because you type your own domain the way you set it up.

One page argues with itself about how long they have been open.

The description says twenty years. The headline says thirty. Two answers read as no answer.

On several I could not find a city, state, address or phone anywhere.

Nothing in the visible text ties them to a place, so "near me" has nothing to match.

None of that is about being bad at chiropractic. Some of the best-reviewed practices in town are on the wrong side of this line.

Which of those is on your site?

That is the only version of this question that matters, and it takes me about fifteen minutes to answer properly. Free, no call, and you can act on every word of it without me.

What you actually get

The same report I ran on all twenty-four.

It crawls up to 25 pages of your site, not just the homepage, which is why it takes fifteen minutes instead of four seconds.

Title tag. Reads "Home". Names no service and no city.

Location signals. No street address in the visible text of any page.

Crawlability. Homepage serves 0 words without JavaScript.

Three scores, not one vanity number

AEO, GEO and SEO scored separately, because they fail for different reasons and get fixed in different places.

The exact defects, quoted from your pages

Not "improve your metadata." The actual line of your actual site, and what it should say instead.

Ranked by what moves first

Every site has thirty problems. Four of them matter this month. You get those four at the top.

Why chiropractors

I picked one industry on purpose.

Not because chiropractors are worse at this than anybody else. Because it is a crowded trade in a small town, which makes the gap easy to see and easy to check. You can verify every claim above yourself in an afternoon.

The same pattern is sitting in dentistry, HVAC, landscaping, med spas and law here, and I would bet real money on it. If you run a service business anywhere near Wilmington, the three checks below take about a minute each and they are the same three I would start with on your site.

Erin Cronin, The Coastal Collaborative

Who did this

I drive past half of these.

I am in Wilmington. Not an agency in another state that bought a list with your town on it, which is who sends you most of these emails.

That is the only reason any of this is specific. I could go stand outside these buildings. Anthropic and Google AI trained, which is the part that lets me read what the engines are doing, but the useful half is just that I actually looked.

Run these yourself

Three checks, about a minute each.

How do I know if AI can find my business in Wilmington?

Open ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity or a Google AI overview and ask it "who are the best [your trade] in Wilmington NC", phrased exactly the way one of your customers would ask. If you are not in the answer, you are not in the answer. It takes about fifteen seconds, it costs nothing, and it is the only version of this test that actually matters.

What should my homepage title tag say?

Open your homepage and read the text on your browser tab. That is your title tag, and it is also the blue line in Google results. It should name what you do and the town you do it in, like "Ogden Plumbing | Plumber in Wilmington, NC". If it says Home, or Welcome, or your website builder's default, that is a two-minute fix under Page Settings or SEO Settings, and it is the highest-value two minutes on this page.

Why does my business not show up in near me searches?

Open your homepage, press Ctrl+F (Cmd+F on a Mac) and search for your city, then your street address, then your phone number. All three should appear in the visible text, ideally in the footer of every page, written exactly the way they appear on your Google Business Profile, down to whether you write Suite or Ste. If any of the three is missing, nothing on that page connects you to a place, and a near-me search has nothing to match you against.

One more, since it is free. Open a private window and type www in front of your domain. Two of the twenty-four got a dead page, and neither owner would ever have caught it, because you type your own domain the way you set it up. Everyone else types www out of habit.

Your turn

Get your own report, free.

Two fields. No call, no card, no sales sequence disguised as a newsletter. You can fix every single thing it finds without ever speaking to me, and honestly, some people do.

+ Add your name and business name (optional, sharpens the AI check)

Results in about 15 minutes. No spam, ever.

The honest part

I would rather say it than have you wonder.

I do sell a deeper version of this. $297 total, every page analyzed, with the exact fixes and the reasoning behind each one, and that price mostly covers what it costs me to run the tools.

But take it or leave it, genuinely. Everything on this page works whether you hire me, whether you have budget right now, or whether you just think it is not a big deal yet. I have been on the other side of the agency thing where somebody finds a problem and then holds it hostage until you pay, and I am not doing that to anybody.

Or just talk to me first

Rather start free? The form above is the same crawl, no card. Or see everything the $297 version includes.

Method

How I got this, and what I cannot claim.

Twenty-four practices pulled from live business data for the Wilmington metro filtered to NAICS 621310, Offices of Chiropractors. Every homepage was fetched and read on August 9 2026. Nineteen came from the business export, five more surfaced in the recommendation searches themselves. The recommendation set was established by asking the engines on the same date.

One real limitation, and I would rather name it than have you find it. My fetch strips script blocks, which is exactly where JSON-LD structured data lives. So for most of these sites the honest answer on schema markup is unverified, not absent. Everything else on this page was directly observed and is quotable.

On the llms.txt number: twenty-three of twenty-four have none. The one exception has one generated automatically by an SEO plugin rather than on purpose. It is a real gap and a fair thing to mention, but it is not why anybody here is invisible. Location signals and readable content are doing that work, which is why the three checks above lead with those.
